Now that sunny days and warm temperatures are finally here,
swapping London’s concrete jungle for the beautiful English countryside
is
always a good idea.
But embarking on a long car journey with the kiddos can be
trying;
if that’s the case for you too,
let me suggest a top child friendly destination
let me suggest a top child friendly destination
that is only a two hour drive from central London.
Welcome to Stratford-upon-Avon, the Bard’s hometown,
a
picturesque village filled with fun things to do
for families with young and
older children.
Explore the River
The village with its quaint black and white cottages
is
located on the banks of the river Avon.
The river is central to the village’s
life,
with open green spaces on both sides of it,
where children can run and
play.
If the weather is nice, you can rent a motorboat or a rowing
boat
and go along the river for stunning views of the village.

Shakespeare’s Museum
Visit Shakespeare's house,
the place where he was born and grew up,
and let the children get familiar with the Bard's works and life.
At the museum one will hear interesting tales
about Shakespeare's family life
and enjoy live theatre performances by the resident actors.
Exciting treasure hunts are organised
for families with children.

Butterfly Farm
A great attraction for children and adults alike
in Stratford-upon-Avon is the butterfly farm.
Upon entering the -very warm- glasshouse,
one is transported into a tropical forest
with hundreds of butterflies flapping their colourful wings.
There is also a room with caterpillars, cocoons and chrysalises,
where children learn how butterflies grow,
as well as a section full of exotic and some pretty weird insects,
like leaf-cutter ants, black widow spiders and scorpions.
In a nutshell: Stratford-upon-Avon is ideal
for a weekend break with loads of fun things to do for all the family.

Love this! I'm always on the hunt for (away) places close to home and strangely enough, I haven't been to Stratford-upon-Avon before.
ReplyDeleteI think you'll love it, it's perfect, especially in the summer! I highly recommend renting a motorboat, we had so much fun!
