Flying with a baby / toddler is no mean feat.
Experience taught me that the days when
I would take my seat and blissfully wait to be served
tomato juice and elusive food in foil containers
belong to ancient {pre children} history.

The other thing I've learnt flying with the Toddler
is that the trip {and hardship} begin way before
boarding the plane: it begins at the airport.

Pros
Stress-free and low cost access with the Tube
(tickets from central London to Heathrow cost ~ ₤4).
There are free soft play areas in Heathrow's terminals 1, 4 and 5
and a Family Lounge in Terminal 3
{tip: exhaust your little ones before boarding}.
After security, there are Boots stores,
so don't worry if you forgot Baby's milk.
Cons
Heathrow gets really busy and crowded,
especially during school holidays.
Heathrow is huge and walking to/from your gate
can take up to 20 minutes.
If arriving to Heathrow, be sure to ask
to have your buggy delivered at the aircraft's door.
The Verdict
Easy access to/from airport, spacious changing rooms,
well thought facilities for families.
The best London airport for parents and kids.
Child-friendly score: 8/10

How very interesting seeing it from your point of view. I live very close to London City airport and within reasonable driving distance of Gatwick and Stansted and so I'll do anything to avoid Heathrow!!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it's sensible to choose airports that are closer to home and to avoid adding extra travel hours to the trip.
DeleteI love Heathrow but hate hate hate Gatwick. The state it's in to begin with - and the 'Express' that is more than unreliable... Not a fan.
ReplyDeleteOh, we have a hate relationship with Luton – more on that on a different post. :)
DeleteSoft play in an airport sounds fab!
ReplyDeleteIt's a brilliant idea, makes it so easy for parents :)
DeleteLoved this. I do like Heathrow, it's so easy... But the rest of them you can keep! :D
ReplyDeleteHeathrow may have it's detractors but I agree with you. Overall it is the best. And being able to get there so cheaply is ideal
ReplyDeleteThat’s really appreciable airport that I have seen last year when my brother land at Heathrow airport in London. The airport is spread across five terminals, each with shops, restaurants, currency exchange facilities, information counters, accommodation desks and left luggage facilities.
