White Chapels & Volcanic Rocks: Tinos Island

In a Glimpse
The quiet neighbour of glamorous Mykonos,
Tinos is a haven of peace and unspoilt beauty
in the centre of the Cyclades, in the Aegean Sea.
Its sandy beaches and laid-back lifestyle
make it an ideal destination for families.

The Villages & Landscape
Tinos benefits from a unique feature in the Cyclades:
more than 30 traditional villages set in breathtaking landscapes,
that carry a charm from another era
(when life was much simpler).

Our favourite ones are Volax with its volcanic scenery
and Pyrgos, the sculptors' village (photo below).

The Sea
The sea in the Cyclades is so blue
so inviting, so refreshing, so clear...

Tinos has a wide array of beaches;
family-friendly sand beaches, pebbled ones, wild ones
and beautiful smooth rocks
(the perfect diving point).

The Ambiance
In mid-August, people flock to Tinos
to celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
It's a big celebration for the whole island,
and the ambiance is very festive.

Celebrations are also held in the villages,
and everyone's invited to drink and eat
along with the islanders.

Practical Titbits

How to get there: there are two ways. With Easyjet's direct flight from London to Mykonos (3h40min) and then the ferry (40 minutes) or via Athens (3h30min) and then the ferry (4h).

Where to stay: Vega has a wonderful view, a pool and offers simple but luxurious accomodation.

What not to miss: visiting Volax village, going to Livada beach for a swim, eating syrupy desserts in Pyrgos village, joining the villagers in their summer fetes.
